Spelling Bee Mythbuster #1
The ENOCH - South Jersey
This is not just another Spelling Bee. You'll be challenged! You'll increase your vocabulary! You'll have fun! One common misconception about spelling bees that may make you reluctant to participate is that you think you're not allowed to write the word down before you spell it out loud. Of course you can write it down! Each participant will be given scrap paper and a pen. It's so much easier to spell when you can visualize what you're thinking. There's nothing to be afraid of! We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, email Jack at jack.august@verizon.net. Spelling Bee Mythbuster #2
The ENOCH - South Jersey
Hello again! Is your excitement building for the Spelling Bee? I hope so! Here's another common misconception about the Spelling Bee: you might think it's too hard to compete with kids that are older than you. Well, don't fret. There are winners and prizes for each grade! So have no fear! We'll see you there! For more information contact Jack at jack.august@verizon.net. Spelling Bee Mythbuster #3
The ENOCH - South Jersey
Hi! For all those attending the spelling bee, don't be fooled into thinking that kids who win spelling bees have to study for three hours a day! All you have to do is review maybe twice a week, and be sure to know tricky words like homonyms. For instance, "stationary" and "stationery". They're pronounced the same way but spelled differently, so be aware of those types of things. Have a nice week! For more information contact Jack at jack.august@verizon.net. Spelling Bee Tip of the Week
The ENOCH - South Jersey
Hello, fellow homeschoolers! So far you have read several myth-buster emails and have become more acquainted with the format of our upcoming spelling bee. Now, for the next several weeks you will be peppered with ideas that will hopefully provide a welcome spice to your spelling bee preparations. The first idea would be to learn to spell new words from the Scripps' list by playing games with your family. An activity such as Boggle, Scrabble or even a simple game of Hangman will raise your level of interaction with the words you're studying and will impress them more firmly on your mind. Have fun while prepping for the Spelling Bee! For more information contact Jack at jack.august@verizon.net. Snowflake Ski Club Extends Registration DeadlineSnowflake Ski Club, skiing Tuesdays at Shawnee Mountain, is extending its registration deadline to Saturday, November 29th. If you haven't already registered and would like to, contact Ana Williams at williamsville@comcast.net soon! Click here for registration information. Junior Statesmen of America Q&A MeetingHave you heard of JSA (Junior Statesmen of America)? There is some general information below. On Friday, December 5th, a veteran JSA Leader is going to address area homeschool high school students and answer their questions. You do not have to join JSA to come and hear about it. Snack and beverages will be offered. Also, there will be an informal debate on whether wiretapping should be permitted by the NSA. There are many homeschool teens involved with this new chapter - don't miss your chance to see how enlightening and fun this is! This December 5th event is open to all high school young ladies and men who are homeschooled. It will be from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at 107 Fostertown Road, Lumberton, NJ. Contact Peter Boyajian at boyajiancrew@gmail.com for more information. =========================================================== Junior Statesmen of America - An Opportunity for High School Students On high school campuses across the country, there are young men and young women concerned with what is happening around them -- students who are interested in politics and government, foreign affairs, the law, and education. The Junior State of America (JSA) was created by and for these students. Since its inception in 1934, more than 500,000 student members have become active, informed citizens through the Junior State. What makes JSA so unique is that students organize every aspect of the organization, all the way from the chapter level to state and national administration. Our student leaders, elected by their fellow JSA members, plan and execute all of the conventions, conferences, and political awareness events held by the Junior State. JSA allows for an exchange of ideas through stimulating student debates, thought talks, problem solving, and a variety of simulations. By participating in these activities, each member gains a more intelligent and informed viewpoint. JSA also provides a wonderful chance to meet and make friends with scores of other bright, involved students who have similar interests. It's an experience that you don't want to miss. Learn more about Junior Statesmen of America by going to www.JSA.org or email Peter Boyajian at boyajiancrew@gmail.com.
